If you're not a fan of fruit-topped pizzas, this recipe might change your mind! We make our Hawaiian pizza with chunks of sweet pineapple to showcase the fruit's refreshing contrast to salty cheese and savory ham.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1-3/4 to 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup pizza sauce
- 1-1/2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
- 1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks, drained
- 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425°. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in sugar. Let stand until bubbles form on surface, 5-7 minutes. Add 1-3/4 cups flour and salt; stir until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rest in a warm place 10 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll into a 13-in. circle. Transfer to a greased 12-in. pizza pan; build up edges slightly. Top with pizza sauce, ham, pineapple and cheese. Bake on a lower oven rack until crust is golden brown, 15-20 minutes.
