Apple Tea

The delicious apple tea transforms scraps into a cozy beverage filled with warm flavors.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • Peels and cores of 4 medium apples
  • 1 cinnamon stick (3 inches)
  • 1 whole star anise
  • 1-in. piece fresh gingerroot, peeled
  • Honey, optional
  • Lemon wedges, optional

Directions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine water, apple peels and cores, cinnamon stick, star anise and gingerroot. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer for 10-15 minutes. Turn off heat; let sit 15-20 minutes to steep.
  2. Pour mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a tea pot or mason jars; discard apple pieces and spices. If desired, serve with honey and lemon wedges.
