Anise Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon anise extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons aniseed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Optional: Frosting of choice and sprinkles

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in eggs and extract. Combine the flour, aniseed, salt, baking powder and baking soda; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well.
  2. Shape into 1-in. balls; place on greased baking sheets. Dip the bottom of glass in sugar; use to flatten cookies.

    Bake for 8-10 minutes or until set. Cool on wire racks. If desired, decorate cookies with frosting and sprinkles.
