Check out how to make air-fryer hush puppies, a pleasingly crunchy and light version of a classic Southern dish.
Ingredients
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg, room temperature, beaten
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
- 2 tablespoons diced jalapeno peppers, optional
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and garlic powder. Whisk in buttermilk, egg, chopped onion and if desired, diced jalapeno. Let batter sit 5-10 minutes.
- Preheat air fryer to 350°. In batches, scoop dough by tablespoonfuls onto greased parchment in air-fryer basket. Spritz with cooking spray. Bake 5-6 minutes or until golden brown.
