FAQ

What is the life expectancy of a Traeger?

With the proper care and maintenance, there’s no reason to think your Traeger grill couldn’t last a decade or more. Of course, if you don’t show it proper care, it could significantly shorten its life (which is true for any grill or piece of grilling equipment).

Do Traeger grills get hot enough to sear?

Yes, many Traeger grills can reach searing temperatures, especially the newer models with a high-heat “sear” setting. Traeger’s pellet grills typically reach up to 500°F, which is hot enough for a solid sear on meats, although they may not sear as intensely as traditional high-heat grills.

Can you use a Traeger smoker as a regular grill?

Absolutely! Traeger grills are versatile and can function as both a smoker and a regular grill. You can cook burgers, steaks and vegetables over direct heat for a grilling effect and adjust the settings to switch between grilling, smoking, baking and roasting.

Do Traeger grills rust out?

Traeger grills feature powder-coating on the grill grates, which is designed to help prevent rust. Of course, that also requires the user to stick to proper maintenance. But if you’re doing your job in taking care of the grill, you shouldn’t have to worry about rust.

Should I clean my Traeger after every use?

While it’s not necessary to deep clean after every use, we recommend at least brushing the grates between uses to remove any residual food waste (like charred fat) that might harm your grill.

Should you empty unused pellets after using Traeger?

If you plan to use the grill again soon and the weather forecast looks dry, you can leave the pellets in the hopper between uses. However, you must protect the pellets from moisture, so if they don’t stay dry (because of summer rains, excessive humidity, etc.), we recommend removing them and storing them in an airtight container.
